TECHNIQUE
Today we are going to learn how to drop and catch a self-bounced ball.
IMPORTANCE
Catching is important because it is a necessary skill used to play many different sports (baseball, football, basketball, etc.). Catching also helps with hand-eye coordination and timing.
VOCABULARY
Eyes on the ball: when looking at the ball continuously in order to track it.
When dropping and catching a self-bounced ball, it is important to:
1. Keep your eyes on the ball.
2. Catch the ball before the second bounce.
PRACTICE
- I will divide the class into teams of two. Ro Sham Bo to decide who will go first. Line up shoulder-to-shoulder on the baseline with your ball. When I say, "GO!" drop your ball and let it bounce. Try and catch it after one bounce. Switch with your partner after each try.
- One teammate bounces the ball and other catches it. See how many you can catch it in a row.

INSTRUCTIONS
- I will divide the class into two groups – BFGs and bouncers.
- Before the game begins, BFGs will line up on the midline in a sleeping position.
- Bouncers will line up shoulder-to-shoulder 10 feet away from the midline.
- When I say, “GO!” the bouncers will drop their ball and catch it – trying to wake up the BFGs.
- When I say, “BFGs wake up!” the bouncers will run to the baseline before the BFGs wake up and try to tag them.
- We will begin a new round when all the bouncers are tagged or make it to the baseline.
- At the beginning of each game, we will switch roles.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Decrease the length between the BFGs and the bouncers.
