OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing Category Tag. In this game, the objective is to avoid being tagged.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will decide which category we will be playing (TV Shows, Movies, Cereal Brands, Types of Cars, Teachers names, Sports Played in the Olympics, Music Artists, Modes of Transportation, Flowers, Candy, etc.)
- I will select one person to start out as the tagger.
- Before the game begins, spread out onto the field.
- When I say, “GO!” the tagger will try and tag you.
- You are only safe if you can name something from the category before the tagger tags you.
- If the word you say does not belong in the category or you do not say it in time, you must sit down.
- You cannot repeat a category item you have already said.
- We will begin a new round when I select a new tagger or when everyone has been tagged.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach:
- Play on a half-field only.
- Depending on class size, increase the number of taggers.
- For increased difficulty have students wear flags.
- Have taggers wear flags to tell who they are.
- Call for jail breaks if students are sitting for too long.
