 INSTRUCTIONS

  • At the beginning of each round, the fox starts inside the rabbit hole and the bunnies start behind the row of cones.
  • The round begins when the fox starts counting down from 10.
  • While the fox is counting, the bunnies hop around on two feet.
  • When the fox gets to zero, he/she will yell, “Here comes the fox!” and all the bunnies have to get to the rabbit hole without being tagged.
  • If you are tagged, you become a fox.
  • The tagger(s) must use a two-finger butterfly tag.

Game 1: Teacher is the fox.
Game 2: Teacher selects 2-3 students to begin as foxes.
Exit Ticket: Students run within a certain boundary to get in line before exiting class.

TIME
10-20 minutes

NUMBER OF STUDENTS
5-20 students per game

EQUIPMENT
4 different dots (red, yellow, blue, green)
2 tall cones
Optional: 2 batons

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Revolution Race. In this game, your goal is to see how fast you can move around the course.

 INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide the class into two teams. Each team will form a single file line behind their tall cone.
  • The course runs in a clockwise direction.
  • When I say, “GO!” you have to run around the course stepping on each dot.
  • When you get back to your team, high-five the next student so that he/she may go.

Practice Round: Have three students demonstrate with you how to run a course.
Game 1: Each student runs once so that he/she makes it back to their original dot.
Game 2: Time each team for two minutes and see how many teammates make it back to their home dot.
Variation: Consider giving groups an object to pass off, like a baton.
Variation: To increase participation, create more courses and teams (depending on class size and classroom management).
Exit Ticket: Students run within a certain boundary to get in line before exiting class.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach:
    • Starting with a demonstration is crucial so students know where they are running to.
  • Safety:
    • Runners should be mindful not to run into each other when getting to the next dot.
