NUMBER OF STUDENTS
4-24 students per game

EQUIPMENT
1 hula-hoop per three students
15 short cones
Optional: 24 fuzzy balls

STORYLINE
Today we are playing Flying UFO. Your goal is to move as a group in your UFO (hula-hoop). Remember to always be honest and follow the rules of the game.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide the class into groups of three.
  • Each group will have one UFO.
  • You must keep all body parts inside the flying UFO while completing certain tasks.
  • You must remain safe inside the flying saucer – you cannot stretch or pull the saucer or it will bend and break.

Game 1: Each group must work together to travel to the midline inside the UFO.
Game 2: Each group must work together to travel to the end line inside the UFO.
Game 3: Each group must work together to perform certain tasks (sit down together, turn 360 degrees together, jump up and down) in the UFO.
Variation: Spread 24 fuzzy balls on the field. Each group must work as a team to try and retrieve as many fuzzy balls as possible while staying inside the UFO.
Exit Ticket: Students share a time in class when they or a classmate were honest.

    • When inside the hoop, students should move together so no one trips or falls.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS

EQUIPMENT
5 short cones

Today we are playing Toy Story. Your goal is to keep as many fuzzy balls out of your room by throwing them into the other team’s room. Remember to always be honest and follow the rules of the game.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide the class into two teams.
  • When I say, “GO!” each team will throw all of the toys from their side to the other team’s side.
  • You may not throw a toy at another student on the other team.
  • You may only throw one toy at a time.
  • When I say, “Andy’s Coming!” you must all lay on the ground as fast as you can.
  • The last person to lay on the ground will stand by me in the toy chest for the next round.
  • I will count how many toys are on each side at the end of each round.

Game 1: Both teams throw balls into each other’s room for two minutes.
Game 2: Consider making the time limit shorter or longer.
Variation: If students hold onto more than one ball at a time, “freeze” them for 20 seconds.
Exit Ticket: Students share a time in class when they or a classmate were honest.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS
4-20 students per game

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before the game begins, make a circle around the parachute and grab a handle or grip along the edge.
  • I will select one of you to be the mouse and one of you to be the cat.
  • The mouse must get to an open space on the other side in 10 seconds without being tagged by the cat.
  • The tagger must use a two-finger butterfly tag.
  • When I say, “GO!” everyone else must work together to lift up the parachute while the mouse and cat run underneath.
  • We will begin a new round when I select a new cat and mouse.

Game 1:  Choose which students will be the cat and mouse each round until everyone has had a turn.
Game 2: Add more than one cat or mouse (depending on class size).

  • Safety:
    • Remind students to avoid running into one another when moving underneath the parachute.
  • ELL Accommodation:
