ASSESSMENT RUBRIC

Objective: Soccer scrimmages

Soccer Unit | Level 35

TECHNIQUE
Today we are going to learn how to play a soccer scrimmage game.

IMPORTANCE
Scrimmaging a game is important because it teaches the rules and procedures of a full game.

VOCABULARY
Scrimmage: a simulated game.

RULES

  • The GrowFit rules are a simple, modified version of regulation soccer. If a rule is not mentioned below we will not be following it.
  • If the ball goes out-of-bounds, the team who did not kick the ball out will get a throw-in (Both feet must be on the ground, two hands must be on the ball, and the ball must be thrown overhead.)
  • If the ball touches a student’s hand intentionally, the other team gets a free kick where he/she touched the ball. Defense must be 10 feet away from the kick.
  • Students cannot kick, trip, slide, charge, push, or hold another student. If this does occur the teacher makes a judgment call (i.e. the student has to sit out for two-minutes for unsafe behavior).
  • Students cannot head balls due to concussions.
  • If the ball crosses the end line it is either a corner kick or a goal kick.
    • If the team attacking the goal kicks it out, it is a goal kick.
    • If the team defending the goal kicks it out, the attacking team gets a corner kick.
  • After a team has scored, the opposing team gets to kick off the ball in the middle of the field.

OBJECTIVE
Today we are playing Challenger. In this game, the objective is to challenge the all-star team in a scrimmage.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide the class into teams of three.
  • I will choose one team to begin as the all-stars.
  • Everyone else will form a single-file line.
  • The all-stars will compete against the other teams until a challenging team wins.
  • Before the game begins, both teams will begin in their end of the field with the ball in the middle.
  • When I say, “GO!” both teams can attack the ball to gain possession.
  • The first team to score a goal wins the match and will stay on the field to challenge the next team in line.

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Decrease or increase the amounts of points teams have to earn to win the game.
Exit Ticket: Students answer questions regarding the rules. For example: when is a throw-in taken; what happens if a ball touches a student's hand; or what happens if the ball crosses the end line?
