STORYLINE
Today we are playing Skyscraper. Your goal is to work together as a team to build the tallest structure.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide you in teams of 3 – 4 and will distribute the equipment equally.
  • Before the game begins, move with your team and materials to a place on the field away from other teams.
  • Ro Sham Bo to decide who will be the builder.
  • The builder must wear a blindfold.
  • The builder is the only one who can touch the equipment.
  • When I say, “GO!” the rest of the teammates must communicate to the builder to try and build the tallest skyscraper.
  • When I say, “STOP” I will decide who has the tallest skyscraper.
  • You cannot be touching the skyscraper to help hold it up.
  • Switch roles with your teammates at the beginning of each round.

Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Spread all the equipment out. Teammates must communicate to the blindfolded builders where to pick up equipment and start building.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: Allow students five minutes to build their skyscraper.
  • Safety: Remind teammates to be thoughtful about how they speak to the builders – giving compliments will help when builders get frustrated.
  • Discussion: Ask students to share who they saw working together as a team during this game.
