STORYLINE
Today we are playing Secret Drummer. Your goal is to follow the secret drummer’s movements without giving him/her away.
INSTRUCTIONS
- I will select a detective. The detective will either leave the room or move to a location out of hearing range.
- I will then select a secret drummer.
- Before the game begins, everyone will form a circle.
- When I say, “GO!” the detective will stand in the middle of the circle with his/her eye’s closed and the drummer will begin a motion or rhythm (swings arms, taps head, wiggles foot, claps, etc.).
- The detective will then open his/her eyes.
- The detective has three guesses within three minutes to figure out who the secret drummer is.
- We will begin a new game after three guesses. A new detective and secret drummer will be chosen.
Game 1: Play as indicated above.
Game 2: Have students walk around.
TEACHING TIPS
- Approach: Remind students to not look at the secret drummer so that they do not give away who it is.
- Discussion: Ask students to share examples of who they saw doing a good job at following the secret drummer.
