STORYLINE
Today we are playing No Look Basketball. Your goal is to work together with your teammates to score a basket in your team’s hoop.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • I will divide you into groups of three (basket, thrower, guide).
  • One of you will be the basket and stand about five feet away from the thrower and hold a hoop outwards and flat so that it represents a basket.
  • One of you will be the thrower and will stand with your eyes closed, or blindfolded, and throw the ball into the basket.
  • One student will be the guide to help the thrower by either using words or moving the thrower’s hands.
  • Once the thrower makes three baskets, switch roles until everyone has a turn being a basket, thrower and guide.

Game 1: The guide can touch a thrower’s hands. The basket can move the hoop.
Game 2: The basket cannot move the hoop and must remain stationary.
Game 3: The guide can only help by using their voice.
Variation: Use beanbags and fuzzy balls instead of beach balls.

TEACHING TIPS

  • Approach: If students can be trusted, consider having them choose a group of three by themselves.
  • Safety: Remind students to throw underhand. Explain why throwing overhand might lead to injuries.
  • Discussion: Ask students to share what was easy or hard about each role in this game.
